this is a hardware problem, usually occurs after the iPod was wet. Sorry but if you were wet and iPod there is no hope. Apple Store iPod used to repair water damage and void the warranty, and contrary to popular belief the headphone jack is not the only place where there is a tab there are wet for more than 3
