@wrtng6 Thats called DFU Mode, it’s perfectly fine just hold the home and power buttons for 30 seconds till it boots up.

I got as far as 2:00, began extracting software, but then got an error message.
I am using iTunes 9.1.1 and my iTouch gen 1 was OS 3.2
