Setup GoogleSync on iPhone – Push Emails, Sync Contacts & Cals

September 4, 2010 | In: iPhone 2G

www.twitter.com www.twitter.com www.timwmedia.com Hey Guys, Today Google enabled Push Emails with their Google Sync feature on anyone’s iPhone iPod Touch running Apple’s 3.0 Software. What does this mean exactly? All those with Gmail accounts now have FULL push notifications directly to their iPhone’s and iPod Touches. Some of you may say well this was already a feature… yes and no, there were ways of enabling this sort of. Now it’s full fledged and WORKING as seen in this video. Head over here to read up on it, and the listed devices that are currently supported. There have been some area’s that I missed in my video, but the overall justification is there: tinyurl.com If you guys have any questions feel free to ask! If you enjoyed the intro and outro music pick it up at this link to download it as your iPhone Ringtone! www.timwmedia.com **The music in this video is referred to as TimsTechBlog_RT5** Thanks!

Tim,
Question…if I set up the push e-mail function for gmail, do I still have to set up the gmail seperately? In other words if I do my thing like you did under Exchange, do I still have to go back and do a very similar thing under g-mail?

Battery does suffer a little, but only due to Push Notifications being enabled. YOU DO NOT have to have the Enterprise plan. ATT lies. I don’t have the enterprise plan at all…

How is the battery? I think this might drain your battery fast? I read on the att site and asked their reps that you have to have the “Enterprise” data plan to use exchange. Are you on the regular plan?

They should… Just make sure you setup an IMAP account. I’m pretty sure Gmail defaults to that. Read up on the differences between IMAP and POP if you’re un-familiar.

I configured my ipod with my gmail account the old way. Selecting the option that is a google account, giving user and passwd, and then select to sync mail, calendar and contact.

Everything seems right except contacts. It just downloaded the contacts from gmail account, but does not update any new changes on either device. It´s that the way it is without the exchange setup?
