Using iphone/ipods with Fiat’s (or Alfa’s) blue&me media system has always been rubbish. But now this Fiat adapter makes it much simpler. here’s a quick review of what it’s all about. because my 500 abarth is arriving next week hopefully and i just wanted to know more about the system as i dont live in the UK would i be able to find the blue&me jack at fiat dealerships?

That would seem logical – but unfortunately technology gets in the way. Blue&Me is built on top of Windows CE, which only recognizes Windows formatted volumes (eg, memory sticks, hard drives). So if you have a classic iPod that you use with a PC, you *can* plug it straight in (although it’ll only play MP3s – Windows CE doesn’t play AACs eg from iTunes store). So the dongle does the clever stuff to allow iPhone/iPod Touch to play *all* of its music despite Blue&Me not being able to see them.

I have a my08 Alfa 159. Great car except for the Blue&Me system, which is the worst piece of crap EVER. I tried everything to make it read my Ipod, and ended up with the ipod dongle which is stupid, because you have to pull it in and out when you start the car, to make it able to read the library. I’m getting rid of B&M and will go for a Pioneer instead. If there is anything Microsoft in a car, pull it out and burn it, before you loose your temper.

Hi – You can buy it off the online fiat accessories store, but they have a big backlog, so you might want to try rining up some of the big dealers like Marylebone and asking them if they have any stock.
